X34 Stuttering in OC Mode

I am having problems with the x34 fps stuttering during OC mode. I have the FPS counter turned on the monitor. When I select any refresh rate above 60, the fps drops about every 3 or 4 seconds. For example, when I select 95 Hz refresh, the counter will stay at 95 for 3 seconds and then drop from 90 to 30 for about half a second. This happens no matter what I am doing in the game. Even if I am not moving around or panning. When I run the monitor and game at 60 Hz it runs perfectly at 60 Hz the whole time, no drops or stuttering.

    Hi jrcnet,

It sounds as though you might be trying to run some games in windowed mode with windowed G-sync in the NVIDIA control panel.  There is currently a known issue with doing this, the details of which can be found in the NVIDIA driver release notes.

I had this problem too with trying to run Diablo 3 in a window with windowed g-sync and the frame rate would totally tank down to 20 when normally I can easily run it at 100.

I would strongly suggest you only select the option to run g-sync in Fullscreen applications in the NV Control panel, and make sure that all of your games are run in Fullscreen mode, NOT a window (or borderless window).  Unfortunately this means for games like Diablo 3 which don't natively support fullscreen 3440x1440, you may have to run in a window and forego using g-sync with those titles until NVIDIA release some drivers that fix this in the future.

This should resolve your issue, I hope.  Please let me know how you get on Smiley Happy

    Cheers,

    Vand

Thanks for quick reply, but, that is not it. I am running all my games full screen.

That's a shame to hear.  Can you please confirm which Display Port cable you are using?

There have been some users reporting issues with the OC when they use their own cables longer than the one provided with the monitor.  If you can try using the one provided with it, although it's very short, perhaps that will resolve the issue.  It's very important to use a DP cable rated for 4K signals to carry the required bandwidth for running high refresh rates at this resolution.

    Thanks,

    Vand.
