Acer Aspire X3470 desktop with black screen when power up

I bought my Acer Aspire X3470 desktop for about 4 years.

One day when I power up my Acer Aspire X3470 desktop. There were 2 shot beeps. Then got the black screen with 2 lines :

This BIOS is exclusively for Acer only

Copy right............

and dead silence.

I tap the Delete button when boot up. Same result with one more line : Enter Setup......Then dead silence.

I tap the F12 when boot up. Same result with one more line : Please Wait......... Then dead silence.

There are 2 ram sticks with 4 slots. I had took out 1 and only used 1 and tried all 4 slots. Same result. Then I changed another ram sticks and tried all 4 slots and same result. Then I took out 1 same ram stick from my another working computer and tried to put in all 4 slots in this X3470 but the same result.

I had took out the battery, changed the jumper from 1&2 to 2&3. Pushed and hold the power button for 20 seconds. Wait for 15 minutes then put the jumper back from 2&3 to 1&2 and put back the battey. Then power up the X3470 but same result.

I have made the system recovery DVD when I bought this computer. The #1 recovery DVD would boot up the computer to the screen that guide me step by step to recovery this system. This #1 DVD can boot up my another computer but can not boot up this X3470.

I went to Rufus to creat a Bootup USB stick. I formet it to Fat32 and Free Dos. This Bootup USB stick can bootup my another computer but can not boot up this X3470.

It seems that I tried to do as much as I can but still can not fix this problem. Any one can help ? Much appreciate that.

You may need to replace the cmos battery on the motherboard. You may be able to get one at your local CVS.

Do you have a spare HDD you can put in it and see if your recovery will recover it? Or just instll Windows 7 and connect your old HDD by usb and transfer all your personal data.

On my first post I stated that I had created a bootable USB from Rufus Fat 32 and Free Dos. It supposed to be able to boot any computer to Dos if it runing with Windows. Also I had tried to use Rufus to format the USB stick to UEFI enable USB drive with GPT partition But it still black screen with 2 lines of text. I had tried it with disconnicted HD, DVD, internet and speaker. I also had tried it with only one ram and tried it on every slots. I had tap F2, F12, Delete when boot but same result as the black screen with 2 lines of text. I also had tried to use the #1 recovery DVD (I had created these System Recovery DVD when I first bought this computer) to boot the X3470 but the same result.

I cannot boot to the screen that can let me do anything.

So I think it probably there is the virus in the Bios. Because there is no reason that I can not boot this X3470 to the screen that can let me do something.

What do your think ? Any suggestion appreciated.

I doubt very much if you have a virus in the Bios.Windows can not write to Bios. Someone would have to design a virus especially for your bios and include it in a Bios flash to get it in there.

Try what I posted. It's very easy to swap a HDD in a desktop.

This X3470 had been attacked by virus several months ago. My friend working on it for a day to kill that virus. After that I saw the computer said some of the files had been damaged. But at that moment the Windows 7 could open normally. So I just leave it. Also I will upgrade to Windows 10 at the end of July so I want to do everything at that same time.

Several days ago, I took out the HDD from X3470 and put it in my another working computer. I power it up and it said Windows can not opened and it will try to find the problem itself. So I just let it. Several minutes later it said it will reboot. Then after the reboot it said it will go to find the problem again. At this point, I believe the best way to do is recovery the whole Windows 7. So I boot up that computer using the #1 DVD to the screen that guide me step by step to recovery the whole Windows 7 OS. It took me about an hour. Then I can reboot that computer to the factory defult just like the day I bought this X3470.

Then I put this good HDD back to the X3470 and power it up ..... but the same result black screen with 2 lines of text.

Can you imagine the reason why ?

I recheck your post that you said that put another spare HDD in this X3470. But as I said I can not boot this X3470 to the screen that can let me do anything. I can not do anything anyway.

Yes, I can You installed a known good HDD with a known good Windows 7 O/S on it and it will not boot and you can't access bios. You have a bad motherboard and nothing is going to fix it.

    Thank Philetus for your help.

The Windows 7 was preinstalled in the X3470. It seems that the product key of this Windows 7 was tied to the motherboard. If I replaced the motherboard then this product key will become invalid. If so, can I transfer this product key to the new motherboard ?

    Thanks

Does the laptop have a Windows sticker with the key?

If you do or know the key, I think with the new OEM motherboard, it might activate first time or you may have to activate by phone, but I think you can get it activated. At the most, you may have to talk to someone and explain the situation. You can send him pis of the computer, both MBs side by side, The reciept for the new MB and hopefully a pic of the Windows key sticker, but I think you will get it activated.
