I found this problem after updated my acer from automatic update. Sound always turned off when I plugged my headset and unplugged it again. The sound turned on again after reboot my acer. If it not rebooted my acer has no sound for incoming call, sms notification.

I have the exact same problem with my Z220. Posting here so that if a solution is found, I'll hear about it, and so you'll know it's not just you. Sorry I can't help, haven't solved it yet.

can you please post (settings/about phone - scroll down):

    Build number

    I'm not an Acer employee.

Also, it's intermittent, which is why I'm struggling to troubleshoot. I'd say about 75% of the time plugging in a headphone stops audio from coming out of the speaker once the headphone is removed, but sometimes not. I haven't yet figured out what makes the difference. If you plug the headphone back in, the audio through the headphone still works.

I checked for updates (about phone --> system updates), and it says my device is up to date (although sometimes it says failed to contact server because a network error occurred first, and then I try again and it says up to date).

    myron,

Have you tried resetting the phone to factory setting to see if that resolves it?

I'm having the same problem. I tried to make a call to my work after I removed the headphones.

I'm was not hearing anything from the phone after dialing, despite trying over and over. Getting frustrated, I started swearing at the phone... what I didn't realize was that my work was getting my calls, and they could hear everything I was saying.

    They were not amused.

Acer, you'd better fix this glitch now.

No, I haven't reset it. Would I not lose everything I have on the phone to do so? All my contacts, apps and media?

    eggman3123,

If you have your account set to back everything up and sync automatically a lot of that stuff will just sync back up when you use the same Google account to log back in. Any apps or media that you have already purchased can be redownloaded, you can back them up somewhere else if you would like.

I have the same issue. Ring tone sound is on, speaker works, but without speaker there is no media sound (caller or other media e.g. games). Powering off and on fixes it. If not restarted, you can only receive a call using the speaker. System updates are all on. I hope they will fix this one soon. It's every time I plugged head phones in. Otherwise it's a very useful phone with great design imo.

I think is some kind of issue that the device isn't recognizing when the head phones were unplugged ...

    HOPING FOR A FIX!!!

I ended up buying a Bluetooth set of earbuds. This solved all my issued. They won't fix the headphones jack issue.

I've come across the same problem. I think one of the updates is to blame (not the latest 2, which are rather small), but I also do not want to reset the phone.  Hope to get a fix of it.
