Iconia One 7 B1-770 default browser problem

Hi everyone,

I just bought an Iconia One 7 (B1-770), and the pre-installed EZ Gadget software is being used by default to open URLs in other apps (like gmail and the Google App). I would much rather these open in Chrome.

I've tried clearing defaults under Settings > Apps but the app details for both EZ Gadget and for Chrome say there are no defaults set. I also tried disabling EZ Gadget, but then links in gmail won't open at all.

Does anyone know another way to change the default browser? Or another work-around so links will open in Chrome other than using gmail.com ?

Android version 5.0.1

Thanks!

    ColleenC,

Here is something that might work, you might have already went through these steps based on your post.

    1. Settings
    2. Apps
    3. Find chrome and select clear defaults
    4. Find the browser app that is currently opening by default on the tablet
    5. Select clear defaults on that app as well
    6. Then next time you open a website it should ask you which you want to be default

Should that fail, I would uninstall that app and restart to see if that fixes it. If that does not work, you might need to just reset it to defaults without that app.

    Thanks Justin,

I had tried to do that, but the "clear defaults" options for both applications was unavailable (greyed out).

I was able to solve it by installing a third browser. That seemed to trigger the app selection prompt when I clicked a link, and I was able to set the default to Chrome.

So for others who come across this problem and cannot clear defaults:

    1. Install another browser from the Play Store (ie. Firefox or Opera)

    2. Open gmail, open an email with an embedded link, open the link.

    3. You should then be prompted to choose a browser. Select Chrome (or your browser of choice)

    4. Select "always"

    5. Uninstall third browser (if desired): settings > apps > third browser's name > uninstall
