Problem: During power up, screen remains black with blue LED indicating power. Can't boot into OS at all.

What should happen: The computer should boot up displaying the Acer logo, proceeding to the boot menu, and then begin launching an OS.

Symptoms:
-When powering on the blue LED comes on, but the screen remains black.
-Plugging/unplugging the AC adapter toggles the orange charging LED and activates the buzzer.
-Fans turn on during power on.
-LCD backlight does not get powered on as indicated by illuminated Acer logo on case.
-Plugging in an external display does not produce anything when the screen is black
-Laptop will boot up sometimes after a few minutes with the black screen on its own.
-When it has booted up, operation appears normal.
-Laptop can recover from standby and come on/off DC power when running.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Shutdown the computer normally
2) Press the power button

What's been tried:
-Pressing and holding the power button for 30 seconds with the laptop unplugged
-Removing the battery and powering on the laptop from DC alone
-Pressing and holding the battery reset button via pin hole.
-With each method I've given the laptop at least 40 minutes to boot to no success.

-Boot media does not work

-Spamming Fn+F2, enter, or any key does not get the laptop into any different state.

Relevant notes about laptop:
-Dual boot system with Ubuntu 14.10 + Windows 10 via GRUB bootloader
-UEFI secure boot has been disabled
-Upgraded wi-fi card to 802.11ac, upgraded SSD to 256GB, replaced keyboard
-AC adapter tip has been replaced
-Windows automatic updates are enabled

-BIOS is likely up to date

-Purchased within months of its launch

Last moments prior to failure: Running in Windows 10 on 10/17/15 and rebooted PC via the Windows start menu. Laptop would no longer power on normally.

Analysis: Looks like a hardware failure related to power given that it does rarely boot up and works well when it does. I'm wondering if I'm missing something basic or if there's anything I can do to fix this myself. If not, what are my options regarding service given that my laptop is almost certainly out of warranty now? This was avery expensive laptop for me and I was hoping to get more life out of it than I did.
