Strange screen shutdown problem with acer Liquid Z220

This happend with my new acer Liquid Z220 smart phone.

On turn on the acer screen "powered by android" comes up.

The Three (my service provider) logo comes up.

But then the screen goes blank.

However, the phone is working and responds to touch (without me seeing anything).

Bizarrely, if I unlock straight to camera, the screen comes on. But, as soon as I exit the camera it goes blank again!

Can anyone explain/solve this?

Here is what I've done with the phone since buying it two days ago.

1. Charged it

2. Installed a few apps (whatsapp, and some permissions mangers, firefox)

3. Browsed internet

4. Battery depleted to ~10%

5. Screen shut down

6. Put on charge

7. See above description of behaviour.

Please help if you can?

Manged to work this out - the phone has as "Adaptive Brightness" which didn't work properly.

In low light levels the screen would blank out. In bright light it would work. The software seemed to be dimming to allow for dark conditions but it translated as a blank screen on the hardware.

I solved this by going to settings -> display and switching off Adaptive Brightness.
