W700 significantly slower on battery

Hello,

I've been having this issue for a while, but it seems to be progressively getting worse. My Iconia W700 performs beautifully on AC power; I've upgraded to Win10 and it's smooth, fast and responsive.  However, when I'm running on battery things my overall system performance is slow enough that it's bordering on unusable.

For example, opening Chrome when plugged into AC, it takes almost exactly six seconds for the home page to load fully.  On battery the exact same operation takes a full 63 seconds.

This W700 has the Core i5 processor; I understand that it does run more slowly on battery than on power. But performance between the two modes has become such that it's getting hard to use it as, you know, a tablet.

So to verify my observations I downloaded CPU-Z to check processor speed. This is what I discovered:

On AC it's running at about 2.2 GHz:

on AC

But on battery the core speed is dropping all the way down to about 800 MHz:

on batter

Any thought as to why this might be? Is that much of a drop on battery normal?  Could it be slowing down to save battery, which is only about 50% as efficient as it was when it was new?

I've run antivirus and malware checks multiple times with MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware, and Avast with nothing at all found.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Fire up Power Options, choose a power plan and select Change Plan Settings. From there select Change Advanced Power Settings. Check out any of the settings that suggest they affect processor or chipset performance and tweak a bit. Be aware that speeding up things under battery will reduce the amount of time you can use the tablet before recharging, so try to find that spot on the tightrope where you stay balanced. Found it, thanks sir. Under the Advanced Power Options settings, there's a section called "Intel(R) Dynamic Platform & Thermal Framework Settings". Under that is a "Configure TDP Level" setting. On battery my tablet is set to "14W @ 800 MHz". I can change that to "17W @ 1.7 GHz" (my only other option, FTR) to bump up the core speed.

Will have to see if that's going to allow me sufficient battery; I do need at least 2.5 hrs a couple of times a week, and the battery's barely made it through of late. Think I'm gonna have to spring for the new battery, ultimately.
