Cannot call regular phones with Skype from my Iconia 8W

I have Skype credit but cannot make calls to regular phones from my Iconia 8W.

I could a few moths ago (in July) but now I have to use other equipment when it comes to skype. The problem is with my tablet.

I tried uninstalling and installing the latest version (September 27, 2015 was my last attempt) but the phone icon is not working.

I had a problem with the auto-rotation feature that had disappeared, through live chat I could solve the problem installing some drivers.

I dont remember if I tried to use Skype inmediately after that, but I havent been able to do so for at least one month now.

I will appreciate your help.

Kind regards,

María

    Justin,

    Thank you very much.

I was unable to perform a system restore to a certain point in time. I didn´t get the option of choosing, It automatically set the restore point to the present.

Since the problem was an application, I was recomended to ask for help to Skype or try with a full system restore.

Skype support was unabled for days, but fortunately, I could finally get chat support from them and the problem was resolved.

Here goes the solution, in case it can help someone else (as the person in Acer live chat told me the problem was with Skype, not Acer):

Apparently, at some point I had changed my Skype status to "disconnected", that was the reason why I couldn´t perform calls. As soon as I changed it to "connected" the phone icon began to work and I could perform calls.

Again, I am very pleased with Acer because both times I needed support, both the community and the live chat were very kind and useful.

    Thank you very much!!

    MARIAINES,

If it did work and stopped, that sounds like software changes or updates that may have caused it. If you know when it used to work, just perform a system restore to that point and go forward from there. It could be a Windows update may not have installed correctly (or something) and it is causing the issue to happen.

    Justin,

I haven´t received any warning regarding a Windows update that have not installed correctly, but I agree with you it is likely that this is the problem.

I know that at the begining of July it worked, but I don´t know how to perform a system restore to that point. Could you help me to do that?

There is something that worries me about performing a system restore though: I had a problem with the auto-rotation check box a month ago, it was a very unusual problem (the check box dissapeared!) and I received help through live chat, the problem was solved installing some drivers. I am afraid I might solve the problem with Skype and then go back to having problems with the screen.

Thank you very much for your message.

    Kind regards,

    Maria Ines.

    MARIAINES,

Here are the instructions how to perform a system restore, please click which operating system you are currently using:

    Windows 8

    Windows 10

If the auto-rotate feature crops back up we can go over that, but it may not.

PS: Apparently Skype status must be somehow attached to the device in question because otherwise it shouldn´t have worked in other devices, and it did.
