The only upper resolutions available are standard HD (@60fps) and 4K (@30fps) with nothing in-between. Using dvi cables with a dual monitor setup, GTX 9600 chipset 2Gb GPU.

No need to upgrade the OS, your first suggestion of custom resolution was both right and less right. It was the way to get it to 2K, but 2K is not what I thought it was and so it kept failing. When buying monitors 2K is listed at 2560x1440 @ 60Hz - but it's actually 2556x1440 @ 60Hz, or 2556x1600 @ 45Hz (either) for my setup. So it was just a matter of precision. Thank you!

Update: 2556x1600 @ 45Hz, while it works, produces a slightly squished image on the vertical axis on a 16:9 monitor, but would be right for 16:10 monitors like I had previously.

    CWR63,

    • What is the maximum resolution that you are achieving?
    • In your dual monitor setup, are you using two CB280HK monitors?
    • According to the specifications of the GTX 9600, the maximum digital resolution is 2560x1600, I am genuinely curious how you are achieving a 4K resolution (3840x2160). Smiley LOL

    • I'm using two CB280HK monitors.
    • I was away from my computer and entered incorrect info - NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT with 2 DVI ports. My previous dual monitors were 1920 by 1200 and had single link DVI cables - would using those cables reduce the resolution to 2K?

    CWR63,

You should be able to set the resolution for each individual monitor to 2560x1440 (2K) using dual link DVI cables. The monitors are 16:9 aspect ratio, the video card (update) supports it, and the DVI ports on the video card are Dual DVI.

I updated the Nvidia drivers but nothing changed. Is it because I'm running XP?

Please ignore the funky frame appearance, that is by choice. I am forced to use XP until my employer decides otherwise - am I out of luck?

Have you tried to Customize your screen resolution?

the button is just under the standard resolutions.

A number of times, but it always comes back as attempt failed. This monitor is too new to have XP drivers, so while the Nvidia control panel labels them correctly, Windows display lists them only as plug and play monitors. I've grown used to everything being tiny, but the cursor stuttering across the screen is really getting to me - 60 fps would be great.

i think the best will be to update (at least) to windows 7, even for security reasons if the PC is connected to the web.
