Upgrade CPU

I have a Acer Aspire M3920, with Intel Core i3-2100 3,10 Ghz.

Intel H67 chipset

Socket 1155 LGA

Is it possible to upgrade my CPU to Intel Core i5/i7 without having to upgrade other components?

If so, where and how do I find CPU's that match my motherboard, and what is important to be aware of when upgrading CPU?

    Hello,

    1. About LGA1155 vs FCLGA1155, read this topic.
    2. The memory module in dual channel is 667x2=1333MHz. You have DDR3 - 1333MHz.
    3. The bios must containt the CPU micro code. And I don't know!

    Hello,

Here are the original processors of Aspire M3920:

    Spoiler
    KC.21001.CI3CPU.INTEL.I3.2100.3.1G (yours)
    KC.23001.CI5CPU.CI5-2300.2.8G/6M/1333/LGA1155
    KC.24001.CI5CPU.CI5-2400.3.1G/6M/1333/LGA1155
    KC.25001.CI5CPU.CI5-2500.3.3G/6M/1333/LGA1155
    KC.26001.CI7CPU.CORE-I7.2600.3.4G/8M/1333/95W

Same motherboard and heatsink. No upgrade of components.

    Advise:

You need to equip yourself with an ESD device and to replace the thermal grease/paste.

Thanks for your help and feedback.

I've done some research on internet and see that upgrading to a "new" i5 cpu will cost about $200-300. If I buy a completely new Acer desktop (Acer Aspire XC705, with i5-4460) it will cost med about $700.

Is it worth the money upgrading existing cpu, hmm...?

This was a tricky question. I'll have to sleep on this. Smiley Indifferent

Will this cpu match my motherboard?

    http://ark.intel.com/products/65516/Intel-Core-i5-3550-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_70-GHz

Price is about $230 and I think this is a good price. Smiley Happy

This is a 3.gen cpu but my cpu is 2.gen

The i5-3550 cpu is for socket FCLGA1155, but what I have in my computer today is LGA1155.

I'm not sure if my memory type will fit this cpu.

    My computers memory type is:

    Type DDR3
    Size 2048 MBytes
    Manufacturer Nanya Technology
    Max Bandwidth PC3-10700 (667 MHz)

    Thanks once again.

I think I will go for a 2.gen cpu to be sure I will not run into some compability problems. Smiley Happy
