I tried to restore my desktop computer to factory default using the program in the Acer computer but received Error code=0x241 - WIMApplyImage cannot apply image. So I tried using the DVD's made using the program in the Acer Recovery software but also received the same code. I actually get anywhere from 50-95% complete…

if you can find an original WIndows 7 installation media, will be good to test if it's an hardware issue or not.

you can e ven authenticate, since there is a sticker with the product key on your laptop.

Did you previously upgrade to windows 10 and then roll back to windows 7?

Edit: Anyway, I don't know if you attempted to use your recovery discs on a clean HDD...i.e. your other HDD.

I've read sometimes it can be finnicky if you don't have a clean HDD. Having said that, there's apparently some older Acer recovery that requires you to have the same partition structure.....in order for it to work. Newer Acer windows 7 computers don't require that...... and the recovery discs will work on a brand new HDD without the need to format and partition.

So if you want to try to use "diskpart clean" on your "other" test HDD.....and then try it with a clean HDD (unallocated space--without formatting or partitions)....to test. Obviously if you use diskpart clean on your current drive....that would be all she wrote as it wipes the drive....and leaves it in an uninitialized, unformatted, unpartitioned state.

So to use diskpart clean, you'd access a command prompt from outside of windows, and then

After you type the clean command, and it says that it executed the clean successfully, then immediately exit out of there. Don't attempt to issue any more commands. Don't attempt to format or patition your HDD either. Then power down your computer. Then boot to your recovery discs.....and give it a shot.

Edit2: What I've been using to access a command prompt from outside of windows is a DVD that I burned with Win10 iso. Just boot the win10 DVD and click on "repair your computer" and navigate to "command prompt".

You can't get a free upgrade to win10 using the iso or the "install on a different PC" method....as it is not the proper upgrade procedure for a free upgrade.

To get the free upgrade, you would have to select "upgrade this PC"
