problem installing windows 7 on tc-120

Today I bought a floor model Aspire TC-120 at Fry's which had Win 8.1 installed. Before I could take it, they needed to remove their security software, which called for them to reinstall the OS from the HDD. After waiting over an hour for the restore it was apparent it would take several more hours, and I didn't want to wait any longer. So I asked them to stop midstream in the process, and obviously when we rebooted it, the OS wasn't bootable. But I told them to power it down and I'd install the OS from disk later. I decided to install Win7 on it, and although it started the process, it appeared to get stuck. I waited about half an hour staring at the 'Starting Windows' screen before aborting. Thinking it might be because we'd aborted the restore and maybe it corrupted the HDD, I replaced the HDD with a new one and tried the installation again. Been here over an hour, staring at the 'Starting Windows' screen...again. I need some advice. Can I install Win7 on this machine, or will I need to install Win8.1 (the version that Fry's had running on it)? I'm in the midst of waiting for an 8.1 ISO to download, so I can burn it and try that route. I'm fairly savvy with installing the older Windows OSs, but not so much with 8+.  Help? Please?

I solved the problem by installing 8.1, apparently there's something about this machine that Win7 doesn't like. Onward and forward...
