USB Issue - Aspire V5

I have a Acer Aspire V5 running on Windows 8.1

It has a USB 3.0 port and a USB 2.0 port

I have a wireless USB mouse and keyboard

When plugging the keyboard and mouse into the USB 2.0 port, nothing happens. The device is not detected nor does it function. However, when plugging the device into the USB 3.0 port it is detected, installed and is fully fuuntional.

To make matters a little odd, I have tested the USB 2.0 port with an external hard drive, which it has detected and accessed with no issue.

As my external hard drive is USB 3.0 ready, I would much rather have the external hard drive in the USB 3.0 port and the keyboard/mouse in the USB 2.0 port, however, for some reason I cannot currently accomplish this.

Any ideas how I may be able to solve this?

Many thanks.

    sionmowb,

Have the wireless mouse and keyboard ever worked?

Yes, as mentioned above, both work perfectly in the USB 3.0 port, but are not even detected when attempting to use the USB 2.0 port.

    sionmowb,

Well, we know that the USB 2.0 connection work since connecting an external hard drive has no issues. Couple thoughts in the meantime:

What is the specific notebook model you are having issues with?

Have you check to see if there is a newer BIOS on our support site for download that may resolve it (compatibility)?

Have you checked the manufacturer forums for the mouse and keyboard to see if there is a post about this issue already?

The laptop I'm using is Acer Aspire V5-122P.

I have the Live Updater desktop app from Acer and check it regularly, last check yesterday found no new updates, but it did update my BIOS a few months ago.

As for the Mouse & Keyboard, they are from the Argos Value Range and have been discontinued for a while, so no such luck on that end.

As you say, we know the USB 2.0 port works, following the external hard drive test, but we also know that the mouse and keyboard work as I am using them now to type this repsonse via the USB 3.0 port. This is what makes it rather strange.

    sionmowb,

Have you used the wireless mouse and keyboard without any other devices plugged in to any other USB ports? I am wodering if the hard drive is interferring with the signal somehow if it is placed near the keyboard and mouse.
