I have tried to update to windows 10 from windows 7 pro.  They said my old monitor was incompatible so I bought an ACER s200hql.  They are still telling me it is incompatible.  What can I do?  I am not too computer savvy.

    packratbrit,

If the device manager is showing installed drivers for the monitor, rather than just a generic driver, remove them, upgrade to 10, then install the drivers. Monitors are pretty operating system friendly themselves hardware wise, it is usually drivers (software) that causes the issue.

I have a related issue with my S221HQL monitor (on HDMI). Since upgrading to Windows 10 I get occasional black screens. These usually (only?) happen when my mobile phone is connected on USB and are sometimes accompanied by a noise typical of mobile phone signal interference. The black screen lasts for a few seconds each time and then the display comes back and everything continues as normal. I am guessing that some driver, somewhere, is incompatible with my setup and, as it manifests itself with the display, I'm starting with that. My driver is Acer driver version 1.0.0.0 dated 16/3/2010. There is only one version (1.0.0.0) of the driver listed on the Acer website. This is listed as compatible with Windows 7, which is what I upgraded from, but more recent versions of Windows aren't listed. On another forum someone suggested (in response to a similar problem) that the display driver should be run in compatibility mode. Is this a sensible suggestion and, if so, how would I do that? Anyway, all suggestions and pointers would be most welcome. It's not a show-stopper, but it's getting irritating.

Quick update: I've just found a newer version of my display adaptor driver. It remains to be seen if this will fix the problem...
