will the fan on my p1283 always stay on when I power off?

I just powered on my refurbished P1283 for the first time. I seems to work fine. I'm concerned because the fan does not stay on when I power it off though. Is this normal? How long does it have to run for the fan to stay on after power down?

    jiebliw,

The fan will continue to run after you power off the projector to cool down the system. Once it has done so, it will stop running until powered back on.

Thank you for the response Justin!

So it sounds like my projector is defective even though it was just factory refurbished since the fan shuts off immediately with power down? There goes any savings over buying new Smiley Sad

How can I get it repaired? The warranty period has passed.

    jiebliw,

I would not say that it is defective, the fan runs while the projector is running, as it should. Typically the fan will continue to run once you press the power button to shut it off to continue cooling, if it does not, I do not think that is a problem honestly.

That's a bit confusing to me. Either it operates correctly (as designed), or something is malfunctioning.

It may be that the extended cooling cycle provides complete bulb life and that without it the bulb will fail sooner than expected. Just because it doesn't fail immediately doesn't mean it works correctly does it?

    jiebliw,

If you are still within the warranty period Acer can definitely take a look at it for you. According to the user manual:

The LED power indicator will turn RED and blink rapidly after the projector is turned off, and the fan(s) will continue to operate for about 2 minutes to ensure that the system cools properly. (only supported under "Instant Resume" mode)
