Switch 10 won't turn on after battery drained

Hi,

The battery went on my switch 10 so I plugged it in to charge for a couple of hours. Went back to it and the thing won't turn on!

No no lights are visible anywhere on the device, no indication that it's even charged..

I've heard this is a common issue, I tried holding the power button down to no avail..

seriously, is this what happens if you let the battery run dry on a switch 10?

how do I fix it.

Nothing happens. When I plug the charger in, the switch 10 doesn't even light up or anything..

I can't find the SNID that apparently is required in order for a live chat. What a joke..

If this is what happens when the battery drains, how has there not been a class action lawsuit? LOL

I do not have a Sw10 but the rest of my Acers all have the SNID somewhere on the outside in really tiny print (may look like a barcode & need a magnifying glass to see).

That said first I'd use a voltmeter to determine if the power supply is really working (if at full charge it should be getting at least warm).

Next take the table into a darkened room and see if there is any screen glow even faint. If so it is probably stuck in a software loop.

If so then I'd just hold down the power button for about a minute. Release and wait 30 seconds, and then press and see if anything happens.

At this point if you have power and nothing happening, I'd want to remove the battery and see if that is the problem. Unfortunately that requires opening the case and would void any warrenty.

Thanks for your advice, yea the cold charger aspect is kind of racking my brains, I mean it should get warm right if the device is drawing power from it..one would think anyway.

maybe I should buy a new charger and see if that works.

can I use any old Acer charger or do I need one specific to the switch 10?

What does it say on the charger. I do not know if it uses a special plug, is it a normal barrel connector ? I'd check with a DVM first.

Ok, so I have fixed it.

I decided to open the thing up and see what was going on, this is when I discovered that the issue wasn't with the battery or charger at all.

it was in fact shoddy Acer manufacturing.

Upon inspecting the device internals I discovered that the ribbon connecting the display output to the rest of the PCB was simply taped in place as the ribbon itself had been cut to short of a length to allow it to be positioned correctly, and that the tape had simply come off taking the ribbon connector with it resulting in no power to the display.

after re-routing the ribbon in a more convenient way I found plenty of length which which to correctly insert the ribbon into its socket and voila! Now it works..

Good job I work in electromechanical assembly.

I have same issue - my daughter brought me her Switch 10, it was plugged in and suddenly just died. Bought it reconditioned from 'Acer Outlet' on Amazon and they're no use.

When she brought it through, charger was still warm, but now when plugged in it is stone cold. Can you provide info on how to take the tablet apart without breaking?

    Thanks!

    Yea sure.

you need to get a small flat head screwdriver or similar, even a butter knife would do, and insert it under the lip on the back of the tablet.

It will make some crunchy noises but don't worry, it's normal.

once you have it under, simply run it around the edge of the device, the back will then lift off.

once you have the circuit board exposed, locate the charging port and check whether the connections are secure, then check to see if the ribbon connector is connected to the display, it looks like a very thin piece of tape with a magnetic strip at the end, make sure it is firmly inserted in place.

the cold charger is a result of the tablet being fully charged already and not needing to pull any more power.

i suspect your issue is the same as mine.

once you reconnect the display ribbon it should work fine.

    all the best, Wayne.
