Hello: I could not find an appropriate board to Post to, so here goes. My name is Ken and I am new to this forum.

I just had to install Windows XP as another OS on my Dell Desktop, yes XP ! The Monitor attached is an Acer Model AL1716,[edited to comply with guidelines]. The monitor installed as a default monitor of 16bit color (which does not show a higher option) and 640x480 resolution, which cannot be changed by sliding the bar to a higher resolution. The VGA monitor is shown as other device in device manager, but I cannot get the driver updated

SOLVED: I was able to look at an XP Pro installation Monitor in device manager. I then downloaded & installed

"82865G Graphics Controller" (Extreme Graphics 2) on the Intel Site.. Narrow the search to XP, and there are 4 choices. I  downloaded the zip version for XP.

    http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Driver/Monitor/AL1716.zip?acerid=633675344627202338&Step1=MONITOR&Step2=AL%20SERIES&Step3=AL1716&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6

You need to install monitor drivers manually, so...

    Device manager

    Monitors

double click on Plug and Play monitor

choose update drivers and browse to AL1716 monitor path

if it refuses to install, choose to search it manually, have a disk and point to monitor drivers path.

    I'm not an Acer employee.

Thanks, but under "Device Manager" there is no such thing as "Monitors"

The VGA Controller" is with a yellow ? under Other devices, as I've already indicated.

I was eventually able to get a download from ACER, which I would have attached, but do not see attach button. One has a file extension of .icc and the other is a txt file

Any ideas ? I think the al1716.icc may belong in a .cab file, somewhere

ps: I am answering emails from another installation of XP, because the problem installation will not allow me to view emails due to resolution of Monitor being so low, so I have to shutdown system1 and boot system2 and visa versa. lottsa fun !
