Hi guys,

I have a laptop with Windows 8.1 currently installed but will be upgrading to Windows 10 RTM on release day. I am just wondering what will happen to the 7 drive partitions (created by ACER) when I upgrade.

In particular what will happen to acer erecovery? and if I chose to do a clean install once I have done the initial upgrade what would be the best approach?

Thanks

(I know it's a tad early to be wondering about windows 10 installation)

I'm not sure which operating system came pre-installed on your computer.

I have Windows 8.1 on my computer and it came pre-installed.

I don't really know what will happen to your (our) partitions.

These are the backups that I have and would recommend to anyone:

    1. Factory default USB recovery drive (which will essentially put your recovery partition on a USB drive along with recovery tools to restore your computer back to factory conditions....if it came pre-installed with Windows 8 or 8.1)

    2. USB or DVD/CD backup of Acer drivers and apps

    3. System image backup

    4. File History

    5. OneDrive

    6. Google Photos

If you're looking to do a clean install of Windows 10, you can download *most* of the up-to-date Acer apps from Acer's BYOC website after the installation.  The drivers should all be on Acer's download website.  But many of the latest drivers will be installed by the Windows 10 installation process.  Additional/alternative drivers can be obtained directly from the component manufacturer.

If you perform a USB/DVD/CD backup of your Acer Apps and Drivers (number 2 above) and then look at what it actually backed up, it will give you an idea of what programs or apps you might lose during the clean install (and might never get back).  I have done a clean install of Windows 8.1 and it seems like there are a few programs that I couldn't find on Acer's website (and aren't included in the Apps and Drivers backup) but I didn't look that hard.

    I'm not an Acer employee.
