ES1-512 will hibernate if open, but not with lid closed... LED goes blue/red flickering??

I want laptop, when closed, to go to sleep, then transition to hibernate.

When open, transition works. Running, sleep, hibernate.

When closed, transition fails. Running, sleep (slow orange blink), then fast blue/red flickering LED.
During flickering battery consumption is large and battery goes dead quickly.

I have tried lots of power config settings.

Lid -> nothing or sleep - same results.

Lid -> hibernate - works, but is NOT what I want.

Button does hibernate, but is not what I want.

I want it to do what it should - sleep, then hibernate....

What does blue/red flickering LED mean?

    Ok, I found a workaround - with a caveat.

The xHCI driver apparently conflicts with something that causes chaos when the laptop attempts to transition from sleep to hibernate with the lid closed.

This is definitely a bug that needs to be fixed! Acer needs to work with Microsoft to find the problem and fix it.

If you go into the BIOS settings (reboot and hold down F2) and disable xHCI.

The USB ports will revert to PCI mode. All the USB ports work, though I think they are USB 2.0, not 3.0

Now the power setting can be set to sleep when lid closed and it will transition to hibernate when appropriate!

LOTs more research and trial and error reveals more information, but not a solution.
I'm hoping that armed with this info, someone can help me find a solution.

    1. When the led flickers blue/red, it is thrashing the HDD.
    2. When you close the lid, something changes the power profile. Not sure who, why, what.
    3. The device that wakes the computer as it transitions from sleep to hibernate is "Friendly Name: Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 0100 (Microsoft)
Description: USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller."
    4. I can not disable USB 3.0, as it disables all USB ports.
    5. This is a common problem.

    I need a solution.
It ant e good for pc to thrash disk after I close it, especially if I put it in case (overheat). And it quickly drains battery!

    - Thanks
