Acer M3-581TG not shutting down properly

Hi All,

I have recently purchase an Acer Acer M3-581TG and upgraded to Windows 8.

When shutting down the computer it does not shut off properly. After several minutes I need to hold the power switch down until it shuts off. Recently I noticed that it is now auomatically restarting after it has been shut down.

Please, anyone able to help with this problem?

Thanks,

Lawrence

Did you use the upgrade assistant when you upgraded to Windows 8? If not, have you loaded all the correct drivers from the Acer website? Does it make any difference if you try completely shutting down, instead of using hybrid shutdown? You can use the instructions at http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/26265.

    Thanks Acer-Blayn,

I did use the Microsoft Upgrade Assistant and it identified 6 incompatibilites (although I couldn't find how to list the details). I then installed Windows 8 and have installed the new drivers as recommended by Acer.

My laptop does not have an Acer Powr Button nor can I locate it using Search. So I use the control from the charms, hold the shift button and click shut-down.

At the moment it is still not shutting down, and after 5 or 10 miutes I need to hold the power switch to close it off. I left it for an hour yesterday and it did actually eventually shut down on its own, but then it started up again all on its own (and I did not click restart, I clicked shut down.

If your computer is powering on by itself and is not able to shut down, you may try restoring the system back to Windows 7, then reloading the upgrade again, to see if it will resolve the issue. If all the drivers are up to date, unfortunately, I do not have any other suggestions.

    Hi Blayn,

I noticed there is a connection with the USB drives. Very often the USB drives do not release a drive: the internet stick or an external hard drive. When the USB has such a problem windows does not shut down, it just hangs there with the little dots going around and around.

Is there an issue with the USB drivers with Wndows 8? New drivers for USB were installed after installing Windows 8.

    Thank you for your help,

    Lawrence

I am not aware of any issues with the USB drivers for this system. Unfortunately, the drivers we have posted are the only ones available at this time.

I have EXACTLY the same problem. Sometimes it shut down properly as the USBs do, but I don´t know what depends on. When they are not working fine, you only have to restart the computer. It´s like if a process would remain working and it doesn´t let the computer shutt down. And when it restart sometimes it´s like if it couldn´t turn on the USB interface. ¿Could it depend on the chipset or BIOS drivers?
