Re: Acer Predator G3-605-UR2F desktop. Are open PCIe slots v3.0?

I recently purchased a new Predator G3-605-UR2F.  While I can find that the machine has two available PCIe x 1 slots, I cannot find if these slots are v3.0 compatible (or?).  I am specifically interested in installing one of the new Intel 750 Series SSD that use the PCI interface rather than SATA III to vastly increase R/W speed.  Thank you in advance for your answer.

Thank you very much. According to what I have now read, the machine indeed has the Intel B85 chipset, so I will just give up on the new Intel PCIe SSD for now. Thank you again for your insight!

I'm pretty sure your computer has the Intel B85 chipset.  Which is PCIe 2.0

So you wouldn't get those crazy speeds if it's PCIe 2.0

Whether it will even work at all is unknown.....

    Here's a quote from article:

"As for older chipsets, Intel isn't guaranteeing compatibility with 8-series chipsets and older. The main issue here is that the motherboard OEMs aren't usually willing to support older chipsets in the form of BIOS updates and the SSD 750 (and NVMe in general) requires some BIOS modifications in order to be bootable. That said, some older motherboards may work with the SSD 750 just fine, but I suggest you do some research online or contact the motherboard manufacturer before pulling the trigger on the SSD 750."

If you buy it without hearing from Acer that the BIOS will support it or a future BIOS will support it, just make sure you can return the SSD for a refund. Smiley Wink
