Acer has no information on Lollipop updates for their tablets anywhere.  Will the Iconia One 8 B1-810 get the update or do we have to buy the new B1-820 to get Lollipop?

It made no since for the b1-820 to be created in the first place the specs are the same as the 810 but with lollipop, I literally don't understand why Acer couldn't have just released the update on the b1-810 models already.

I know this tablet is not among the newest, but it's still being sold and I just bought mine a week ago. I hope they upgrade to Lollipop. As a first time Acer customer not familiar with the prior lineup, my impression is that there are too many minimally different tablets sharing the same appearance and name, many of which are on the market at the same time. Meanwhile, Acer has apparently developed a reputation in the tech press for not providing much in the way of OS updates at all. Rather than release yet another minimally different device to further confuse those of us who are Acer newbies, they ought to invest in better publicity with the tech press by supporting the not-so-very-old tablets they've already sold.

But it is among the newest as well as the iconia tab 8 they were just release like 9 months ago, so there's no reason why lollipop can't be on the devices.

    Hi

I just got off a chat session with ACER support who said that the updates would come from Google.

He stated that if I had a problem, then Acer would help diagnose the problem, but if it was an software issue, I had to contact Google, if it was a hardware issue, then I had would contact ACER.

When asked how I would contact Google, he provided a link to google support, but that link pointed me back to the Acer site.

Upon questioning him about that he suggested I had to talk to senior level support from Mon - Fri 8:00-4:45 CST.

I am guessing the B1-810 is never going to see better than KitKat.  I return mine to the store tomorrow.

    SIGH!!

p.s. I have the whole chat session saved

I bought my first Acer product less than a year ago even though I already own a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7". Samsung handicapped their Tab III screen resolution, whereas the Acer offered a better HD viewing experience. A better screen and a slightly bigger viewing area for the price is what sold me on this product.

Here's the thing: I still have a valid product warranty in place and *already* it's looking doubtful that Acer has any plans to update the OS!

My Samsung Galaxy tablet, even though it is more than a year older, lets me make use of App-to-SD, which means I don't have to worry about running out of internal memory space. (It's a real pain when you realize that only media files and documents can be stored externally whereas all apps have to compete for whatever limit the internal memory has.)

Only after purchase did I appreciate that I cannot move apps to a microSD card on my Acer Iconia One 8 unless I can get the darn thing off Kit-Kat. Android/Google made a whole lot of developers and consumers very, very mad a few years back when they dropped app-to-SD support. Now it's back, but you have to have an OS (or a build) that supports it.

I just bought a new smartphone with Lollipop and man, it's sooooo much better than Kit-Kat, ICS, Jelly Bean and Gingerbread. For starters, a 200GB microSD card capacity, apps run with a smaller footprint so they aren't big internal memory hogs, improved battery usage (far less drain) and more responsive using a similar quad-core processor, too.

Acer really needs to offer the Lollipop update if only because not *all* of the buyers for this product have even managed to take it beyond the manufacturer warranty period. I bought mine at a big club store. If I thought the Iconia One 8 was already a dinosuar in the eyes of its own manufacturer, I wouldn't have taken the plunge.

Acer needs to have one over on Samsung and they could do that not just by pricing their products for less but by supporting their products a bit longer than Samsung does. A commitment on the part of Acer to a minimum of one updated OS post production would go a long way toward creating customer loyalty.

In my view, app-to-SD support is a must. It was a mistake that Google ever dropped it and it would be a mistake for Acer not to bother to re-enable that feature now that it's back. If at all possible, Acer ought to improve the upper volume limit of the inbuilt speaker, too, because the narrow volume range has been the primary complaint against this tablet and yet this *could* be fixed with a patch at the same time they push out an OS update!

    Bottom line?

If app-to-SD functionality isn't restored via a Lollipop update and no volume-level firmware fix is in the works to allow for a modest improvement in output from the built-in speaker, I'm afraid I won't be a repeat customer. In this crowded business, repeat customers are what it's all about so please Acer — take note!

Have you got the Lollipop update for your B1-810?

I am looking into buying an Iconia One 8 B1-810-1193 and I would like to have it updated to Lollipop.  If the update is not available I will buy a different model.

absolutely buy something else. It appears that Acer has no intention to provide an updated Android version for the b1-810. Why it was released with kit-kat at all is beyond me, as it was superceded by lollipop nearly 1 year before the b1-810 was released. My experience thus far with acer has been disappointint, to say the least. After a week, mine was returned when I realized it was not to see lollipop. There are far too many other tablets available to waist time and sacrifice performance with this relic. Imported tablets with better specs are can be found for less than half the cost of this and they ship with lollipop or sometimes Marshmallo. Lack of support places Acer along side these in terms of reliability; yet these are cheap enough that should it not get the latest Android update next year, buying next years model with the update still costs less than the b1-810. You can do much better than this tablet.
