Im about to swap new motherboard with intel chipset to my m5910 system. I didnt get win 7 install dvd with my purchase back in 2011, it seems to be build in. I have win 7 home premium product key still on my case and acer s/n + snid number too.

Only dvds i found are is 3 dvd-r and there is written : Blank recovery DVD, i checked and all 3 are full of data.

When i swap motherboard how can i use THIS win7 operating system in my new motherboard?

If your Windows came with your Acer computer, then your Windows is an OEM version and not retail version. My suggestion probably won't work, but you can always try it. Worst case scenario is that you have to buy a retail version of Windows from any store.

If you're patient, wait until Windows 10 is publicly released. You might be able to get around the problem of it being tied to the motherboard or at least Windows 10 might be cheaper to buy retail (I'm purely speculating).

If you don't have the extra cash right now to buy a new copy of Windows, then please don't follow my suggestion. My suggestion in previous post probably won't work since you have OEM windows, but it's just something that I would try personally.

    Hello,

Have you bought the new motherboard from Acer?

The Windows version of your desktop is an OEM pre-installed version (erecovery media). It works only with your Acer motherboard. They are linked.

That will not work with another motherboard. You can order the Acer spare part from your Acer store.

    Microsoft OEM Partner Center:

"Generally, an end user can upgrade or replace all of the hardware components on a computer—except the motherboard—and still retain the license for the original Microsoft OEM operating system software. If the motherboard is upgraded or replaced for reasons other than a defect, then a new computer has been created. Microsoft OEM operating system software cannot be transferred to the new computer, and the license of new operating system software is required. If the motherboard is replaced because it is defective, you do not need to acquire a new operating system license for the PC as long as the replacement motherboard is the same make/model or the same manufacturer's replacement/equivalent, as defined by the manufacturer's warranty."

You can try reading article , following instructions and entering your key. Your product key may or may not work.

    Hello aimahustler,

When you buy a motherboard from Acer store, the technician enters your S/N and model with a special software.

The license key (OEM) is linked with the model and S/N.

You wrote : "Bought it from retailer"

You can compare the model and S/N between the bios setup utily and the label sticked on the tower.

    I'm sure they are different.
