Need help upgrading the BIOS on an Aspire X3910

Hello! I am trying to upgrade the BIOS on an Acer Aspire X3910 running Windows 7. I downloaded the BIOS files from the Acer website. The instructions for install seemed a bit vague:

  • Copy “DOS” file to disk - I did this
  • Enter DOS mode and execute batch file “FLASH.BAT” – The directions included a screen shot showing a C:\DOS> prompt. This is the part I am having trouble with. I do not know how to get this DOS prompt. I have tried the CMD line in both normal and safe mode and I cannot get into any kind of DOS directory to be able to run the flash.bat command. Google hasn’t provided me with any solutions.

Can someone help me out with this? Thanks!

you need to create a MS-DOS bootable media.

you can use Rufus to create a bootable USB flash drive:

    http://rufus.akeo.ie/?locale=en_US

    usbdos.jpg

Once done the USB MS-DOS bootable media, copy the BIOS file on the root of the USB flash drive, then boot from it and once in the DOS prompt type FLASH.BAT

    I'm not an Acer employee.

    Hello Townsley,

I think you made a mistake:

    Aspire X3910 - Bios version P01-B2 - Dos folder: P01-B2.BAT (Afudos - Asus)

Be careful - wrong bios --> motherboard dead!
