I have Windows Vista Ultimate and needed to run my recovery discs to repair windows.

 

I started the process and find myself stuck in a loop as follows:

 

Acer Recovery gives me three choices;

 

>  Restore system from factory defaults    (not highlighted)

>  Restore system from user's backup        (not highlighted)

 

>   Exit           (highlighted)

 

I choose the only available option of EXIT  which leads to

 

"Windows is loading files" then, it looks like Windows is preparing to start but I am returned to the initial three choices with EXIT being the only available one.

I bought a bootable disc but am not sufficiently knowledgeable to know how to navigate the options.

 

Can anyone help please?

        Have you bought them from Acer service customer?

       (For Windows vista, you have two DVDs).

    Hi Lauent_14,

    Thank you for your reply, I will check out the two links you sent me.

    The disc I bought was not from the Acer store, but from ebay. It seems fine but too technical for me.

    Acer offered me a start-up kit but it would cost more than 60 Euros. As I had just paid Acer several hundred Euros to repair my machine in UK and the problem which I needed to resolve (some Windows updates failed to install) only occurred after their intervention I did not feel like paying them more to resolve a problem caused by their intervention.

    The repair was carried out in UK and when I asked them about my present problem with System Recovery they said that I must go to Acer France.

    That was when they wanted another 60 Euros.

    I forgot to add that Windows Vista Integrale was pre-installed on my computer so I only ave the Acer Recovery discs I created after purchase.

    I have viewed the video you suggested but can't get out of this loop in Recovery Management with my present discs.

    The other link you sent on Recovery documentation gives me a blank page.

    Hello,

     

    1- You can't purchase the eRecovery media on eBay. They are specific to your model (it's a scam).

    2- If you have always the original HDD, you can restore from the hidden partition [Alt]+[F10]: French video

    3- You have two option when you do the DVDs:

        1- Factory Default Backup: You need this one. 

        2- User Backup

    4- The direct link for the document:

    Hi Laurent_14,

     

    The disc I bought on E bay was not an e-recovery disc and not a scam, but a Windows bootable disc which I was hoping would enable me to boot into Windows Vista, but, as I said, I don't have the knowledge to navigate the proposed menus.

     

    As I said, Windows Vista was pre-installed on my computer, no discs were provided. All I have are the recovery discs which I created after purchase.

     

    So it seems that unless I purchase a set of recovery discs from Acer there is no other way of exiting from the loop I am stuck in.

     

    The only reason I am reluctant to buy the Acer recovery discs is because I move from one problem to another and each time I buy a solution from Acer to my present problem I encounter another problem and have to buy another solution from Acer.

     

    My initial problem was a battery which would not take a charge. So I bought a new battery. The new battery would not take the charge so I received a replacement battery and bought a new power lead. The replacement battery would not take a charge so I contacted Acer.

    I bought another battery from Acer and a new power lead. During the time I had no usable battery I had a power disconnect during boot up which gave me a blue screen crash.

     

    I had to send the computer to Acer to resolve this issue and it cost quite a lot of money.

     

    After this Windows would not take all updates and kept telling me so. Also my new battery with new power supply would sometimes not detect the battery.

     

    So I sent the computer back to Acer, they offered to change my hard disc at a price.

     

    I refused this and decided to continue with the computer as it is.

     

    I tried Acer e recovery to reset it to initial set up and find myself in this loop with no escape.

     

    The computer is 7 years old so I have to stop spending more and more money on it at some stage, this is why I am hoping to find a way out of this loop without involving even more expense. The next step is to buy a new computer and put my present one in the dustbin.

    It's a long story...

    If I've understood correctly, you have actually a new battery, a new AC adapter and a defective HDD (may be).

    1- Could you give me the HDD brand (you'll find it in the bios setup utility)?

    2- Have you cleaned the DC-IN connector with a contact cleaner spray?

        Have you recovered from the hidden partition [Alt]+[F10] or your DVDs?

     

    You won't be able solve your Windows issue until the power isn't stable.

    No money just some tests...

    here are two coies of my exchange with Acer.

    Problème : Bonjour, Windows n'installait pas certaines mises à jour. Apparement il faillait faire une reparation de windows avec les discs "Acer Recovery Management". Je l'ai commencé mais je me suis retrouvé dans une boucle sans sortie. Je n'avais qu'une seule option disponible - "Quitter" En quittant la procedure recommence mais je suis de nouveau dans la boucle. Windows Vista Intégrale était pré-installé, je n'ai pas de disc de démarrage. J'ai essayé Alt + F10 qui ne marche pas. Je suis bloqué dans la page d'accueil d'Acer Recovery Management, mon système commence à démarrer Windows puis s'arrète. J'étais en contact et mon cas a été vu avec le Support Technique Par Mail. Ils m'ont dit de suivre le lien donné et de faire une demande de kit DVD. Je rappelle que j'ai déja des discs de recuperation mais j'ai besoin d'un disc que fasse le démarrage de Windows.     It was Acer UK who said they would replace my HDD at a price and I was not convinced this was necessary, my HDD passes all tests.

    From the bios set up my HDD details are:

    Model Name   WDC W032008EVT-22ZCT0

    Serial Number: W  -DXW6E804K8D35

     

    My present problem is not related to the battery problem, it was the battery problem which caused my blue screen crash then the rest.

    Laurent_14 if you have had enough of discussing my problem, I will understand.

    1- "my HDD passes all tests": Have you tested it with WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Dos? (Software link)

     

    2- "a Windows bootable disc which I was hoping...": I suppose you've bought a Vista System Repair Disc and not a

        Windows Install DVD. In this case, you can read this topic.

     

    Note:

    You are perfectly bilingual. I live in Normandy and I can go in England by bicycle via the ferryboat! Smiley LOL
