Acer Aspire Switch 11, cannot boot from a USB

I want to install Win 8.1 Pro on my Switch. I have a dvd image for 8.1 pro 64bit, it was used successfully by the company I work for. I used Rufus to create a bootable USB, I tried both GPT partition and MBR partition.

It does not work.

* I have tried both with secure boot on and off

* I have tried placing USB HDD/CDROM/FDD options above "Windows Boot Manager" in boot order, it will still boot Windows

* I have tried boot menu (F12), it won't let me choose anything other than "1. Windows Boot Manager"

* I have tried to put the USB in both 3.0 port on the device itself and 2.0 port in the keyboard

I have not tried in legacy mode because I want to use UEFI for faster boot.

Maybe I'll try doing it over the network via serva later if I can be arsed (the process is so tedious...) but really, shouldn't it just boot from USB?

You should try 32bit. I bet it works. Not a combo disc either, 32bit only. I am not yet sure how to determine if a machine is 64bit-capable yet. My Switch 10 is not.  It seems to have to do with the firmware and the OS it shipped with. Since the idea now is for the key to live and die with the hardware, and the inability to upgrade the ram past whats there anyway, I guess they figure you have no reason to go up to 64bit. If you have less than 4gb RAM, it is counter-productive to do so anyway. Windows 10 has a minimum set at 1gb/32bit and 2gb/64bit. I have 2gb. If I run 64, then Im at the bare minimum, but if I run 32, then Im running double the minimum. And you cannot UG from Win7/8 64bit to Win10 32bit later. So I just wouldnt do it. There is no benefit.
