S220HQL Issue

I have bought a new Acer S220HQL monitor and it is supposed to have a resolution of 1920x1080. My motherboard is new, msi 970 gaming, up to date bios and a HD Radeon 2900XT who is supposed to support that resolution. However, I cannot go beyond 1600x1200 for some reason. I used a vga cable.

Also, when I use the gpu driver to adjust resolution it won't change it to the one I'm requesting. I hear a ping noise probably signaling a problem with my request whilst the screen is black.

I have had also, prior to this a 20 inch monitor who had a maximum resolution of 1600x900 and hence the shown maximum resolution of 1600x1200 since my gpu won't support 1600x900. How do I manage to get past this problem and get it to work at 1920x1080 as it is intended?

Thanks

    dromychaetes,

I can't see any reason why the monitor wouldn't support 1920x1080 using either VGA or DVI (15- or 24-pin). It sounds like there might be a driver issue with your video card you are using or something else on the PC that is causing it to not register the proper connection.
