Hi Ironfly I cant boot, stuck in a loop, can't go into recovery, I have ordered and received the recovery and restore disks along with the system disk from Acer and even with those I still can't get the computer to boot into Windows. When trying the system disk it looks like it is going to work than, comes up with a message saying there was a problem with the computer and it restarts, and so does the loop. It appears there is definitely a problem in the boot area, whether it's physical or software related is another question.
Last night (using my desktop computer) I found a program Partition Wizard 9 that does boot the computer but for me to be able to get the disk to run I had to go into the Bios and change the boot to Legacy. I haven't done a lot with the program yet but I can see the files and partitions etc.
I also made a copy of System Rescue (Linux based program) and booted with that. I don't know anything about Linux was more interested to see if it would work. I also downloaded the ISO for the current Ubuntu, and even though I'm not educated in the Linux world, it is a thought to change the OS lol.
There is nothing I need to really save on the computer, and with the recovery disks I can restore to factory which works too, I haven't looked to see if there is an option out there to do that when you can't boot into a Windows environment to run the commands (oh forgot to mention can't get a command prompt either). Windows just doesn't exist on my laptop even though its there lol!

ok, you can boot with Partition wizard on legacy and this is good. (notice that both partizion wizard and linux based system rescue, are live CDs, they don't use the HDD to install data, they just use ram)

once in partition wizard, since you don't need to backup your data, completly wipe your HDD, so it will be unallocated.

once done, exit from Partition wizard, boot to BIOS, revert to UEFI, press F10 save and exit.

put the Acer recovery media on your DVD drive, press F12 at boot and choose to boot from DVD, let's see if it will able to install windows.

if it will give your an error again, there are 2 things to check:

    1) faulty HDD

    2) fault ram stick

Yes I did notice that about them being live disks, that's where I had hope lol. I'll try this right now and let you know.

You seem know quite a bit about Linux (I've read comments and suggestions you have made to others, that's what actuallly got me going in that direction) comments on it?

Oh, not so expert on Linux. Smiley Happy

i sometimes test new Ubuntu releases, i like it, it's very good on old machines but sometime i miss windows Office package even if Open Office is a good alternative and mainly Photoshop suite.

if you don't need it and you are not a game player, Ubuntu can be a good choice.

I'm seeing there are different options to Wipe the disk, I'm used to the old Windows ways - FDisk (I know that this is a different meaning in the Linux world) which was the total wipe out in Windows as opposed to Formating. Do you have a suggestion on which Wipe Disk I should use? If it was Windows I was using I would Fdisk.

on windows i prefer to use Diskpart and clean command, that's all you need.

if you use partition wizard, you need to right click on the HDD icon and choose Wipe disk (fill sectors with Zero)

Hmmm.... I have thought about learning it, I have a few older computers around that I could install it on to learn and test drive it. I do need photoshop though (at least I think I do lol) as well as Dreamweaver.

I haven't had to Fdisk or repartition since the old XP days
