HELP! Switch 10 powers on but nothing on screen!!

I've had my switch 10 for about 6 weeks. First month was great. Then it started getting stuck in sleep mode, but on my own I figured out that I just needed to hold the power button for 10 seconds to power off, and then it would power back on normally when I pressed the power button again. We were happy with this, it worked consistently.

So, starting yesterday: the battery had died the day before. I left it plugged in all night and day, then last night I unplugged it and tried to power it back up. The backlight will come on - and sometimes it will stay on, other times it goes dark after about 10 seconds - but nothing else happens. I left it on with the backlight all night LAST night to drain the battery again. This morning it was off, I plugged it in, same issue, no change.

I have tried power button + down volume; alt +F10; the reset button seems to do absolutely nothing; I also saw a suggestion of F2+F9+F10+Enter that also didn't work.

I can tell when the unit is on because the windows button at the bottom of the screen will vibrate when touched. Right now it is plugged in with the steady amber light in the power button.

I'm afraid the thing is just gone, but is there ANYTHING else I can possibly do?? It was a refurb so there is no warranty. The seller provided a 30 day warranty. Ha ha.

Thank you...

OK one more trick: With PC off, hold down F2 on the keybord, then press and hold the power key until something happens.

After that I'm out of guesses.

    a) reset button just performs a hard "turn off", does not restart

    b) did you also try holding down the volume up. Then pressing and holding the power button. That should put you into the BIOS setup. This should be done with the charger connected.

If that does not work then do you have a place for a decorative "brick" ?

Should I do that when it is off or after I have turned it on?

Machine fully off (no vibrating switches). Press and hold volume up. Then Press and hold power. Hold both until you see something on the screen (should just be a few seconds). Then release. This should put you into the Bios Setup. Works on all of my Acer tabs but do not have a SW10.

Thank you. I seem to have the world's most expensive brick. Or dog toy. Or frisbee.

Well how about that. It worked! It's in the setup utility. ...now what?? (I'm not much of a techie...)

That is good news, you still have a computer.

Am having to guess a little here since do not have a switch 10 but  in the opening section does it show anything under EMMC Model Name ? (scroll down) Might as well record the serial number while there.

Is there a BOOT selection ? If so, what does it show and in what order ? Is Secure boot enabled ?

Could try exitting discarding changes for now. It is possible that it is in the process of a major update (default is automagic, I always set mine to manual) and may take a few hours (yes: hours) to finish. I'd give it overnight with the charger plugged in.

I ended up just exiting, and was able to get back into Windows with no problem. I turned it off while I was out for a couple of hours, came back and it started right up. Whew!

I'll post on this thread if I run into any other trouble...but thank you so much! You saved it! Smiley Happy
