  • Hi David,

The Architecture is 32 bit, so it would be hard to install a 64bit OS, but yes there are ways to install 64 bit OS too.
See here for the FAQ from Microsoft: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows/32-bit-and-64-bit-windows#1TC=windows-7

Bro, 32bit architecture is referring to the O/S, Windows 32bit.  The Baytrail Z3735 as well as the Z3740 (on the W4) are 64bit processors.  A 64bit processor is designed to be used with a 64bit O/S, Windows 64bit.  So there should be no problem installing Windows 8.1 64bit on the Switch 10 or the W4.

The answer is yes if you can find a UEFI compliant install disk with a Microsoft or Acer signature it should be able to install.

That said all of the Acer and Intel drivers are 32 bit and whether they would run properly is questionable.

These are for things like the WiFi, touch, and power/thermal management.

Personally I'm waiting for the Switch 12 to be released which is said to have the full 64 bit suite.

how much ram do these machines have? my understanding is it makes no sense to run a 64 bit version if it's a 3gb and under.
