I was instucted this morning to install a live updater.  When complete, the tablet froze!  I could do nothing with it.  I did a soft restart, and it worked for awhile, but now, it has locked!  I have no clue how to unlock it!  I do not have a keyboard.... and when I try to log, I am told it is locked and the screen goes dark.  I could use any and all help anyone can give me.

Thank you!

I believe so!  When I reboot and try to sign in, I am locked out.  I received an error message telling me "If I forgot my password, I could change it at "rosoft live.com/password/reset" .. I did that, and still no access.  This was after I installed the "live updater".

I am, however, able to get into the system on another account (my husband's) I have never authorized a lock on the computer.  It seems there is always a "glitch" when a large update is suggested.

    Thank you!

I will certainly give Kudo's as soon as I "study" the advice.  I appreciate any and all help.  Not being a "computer" guru..... I poke and hope, but you will be hearing from me about this tablet, as I have had issues before....plugging through until something worked.

Thank YOU for relaying the proper protocol for this forum....   Cat Very Happy

FYI:  As I tried to muddle through this, another message came up on the tablet - it read"  "Computer will restart in 2 days when install is complete".  1st time seeing this.  So, I guess I should wait 2 days.  Hmmmmmm .....

And again, thank you.  I will certainly let you know what happens.

This is typically a message telling you that Windows updates have been installed in the background. You can manually restart the tablet to finish the update install, no need to wait out the time.

BTW, current versions of Windows try very hard to make people use their Microsoft cloud credentials when initially setting up their computers. Guess I am strange but at present I have my own cloud.

To avoid this you have to follow a specific sequence when setting up the computer. Initially it will require the Microsoft account name and password. If you leave that blank and click on "create new account" a different screen opens. At the bottom of that screen will be in small  print "use local account". If clicked you can then create a local account as in older operating systems. That one will be an administrator account. I then create a local normal user account for what I do most of the time and use "switch user" if I need the admin account. I also usually made a second admin account in case something goes rong with the first.

    Your milage may vary.

Thank you very much.  I will give this a try.  Nothing else seems to be working, but I am unsure if I truly understand what I am doing.
