Are you referring to gmail or stock email application?

if it's the stock email application, can be a SMTP server problem, please double check settings/passwords.

    I'm not an Acer employee.

    Hii Firefly.  Thanks.

It is the stock Android email application.  So I checked the Verizon settings.  I tweaked the server names and port numbers.  I checked the log in name and password.  And no luck.

Just gotta say this kinda thing drives me bonkers.  The for listening.

I see on the Verizon support site they have changed the port for SMTP from the default 25 to 465. Which is yours set to?

thanks for the port number idea.  Yes, verizon has changed both the port numbers and the names for both the In & Out mail boxes.  I applied those changes.  the out box continues to add and hold unsent messages.  the in-box continues to receive new mail.

I chatted on line with a tech support person.  the recomendation is to do a factory reinstall.  I'm reluctant to delete all the memory and settings.  I wonder if I cAN save any data and load it back in after the factory re-install.  does anyone have experience or knowlege on that score?

Was it a Verizon tech support person or an Acer? The factory reinstall thing is liable to be from Acer, since it gets you back to a know environment but I'd believe you'll end up right back where you are now. There is something not yet configured correctly for the Verizon SMTP server. Double check that authentication is turned on and also SSL encryption. Either of the latter two can be easily missed...
