Is the Recovery Partition really needed for normal operation?

Hi

W1-810.

After having created the 2 recovery USB stick, i deleted the recovery partition. It was done with EaseUS partiton manager pro. Immediately the tablet crashed, and is not booting now. I can boot from the USB sticks into the UEFI recovery tools. Not tried to go any further.

But is the recovery partition in use during normal operation sp that is why it crashed, or is what happened here just another problem i created?

Actually it seems that i got it working now. With diskpart i deleted all 4 partitions on the disk, and then next recovery attempt then worked.

So now i discovered that i'm not able to restore via the USB sticks i made. The recovery procdure is not able to recognize the image at all. If i select: Advanced / Install a driver, then i'm able to browse the C: partition, and the recovery usb stick with out any problem.

    I have disabled secure boot.

Any ideas how i can continue then?

Seems like a rash of the same issue.

    Try this sequence:

    Starting with power off

    1) Connect the bootable recovery drive to the tablet

    2) Press and hold the volume down and then press and hold the power button

    3) Hold until you see something on the screen

    4) A boot selection menu should Appear

    5) Select the USB drive

This should start the boot from the USB. If the USB drive does not appear on the boot menu there is a problem with either the drive or the cable.

IMPORTANT: if you have a GB+ "recovery" partition, Windows 8.1 has a way to recover the space. To do so Windows must change the boot sequence in software. When you use the "recover space" button from the recovery page, this is done automagically. If you just delete the partition you will screw up the boot sequence.

Thanks, but i have no problems in booting from the USB stick. My problem is that the image restore procedure can't locate the recovery image on the USB stick.

    Tried it anyway. Same result.

you probably created a usb with recovery tools only and doesn't have your system's backup wim file. check the size of all usb stick's contents. it's probably less than 1 gb. In Windows RE you can try system restore option and "fix windows". this may restore the boot from C:

No, 7.6 GB is used. in the "sources" directory i have Custom.Wim and Install.Wim.

Boot Windows and connect the flash drive

    Open diskmgmt.msc

Is the Recovery Partition really needed for normal operation?

    Yes.

    Windows 8.1 tablets use WIMBoot:

That sounds like total space and may vary some between flash drives.
