New Iconia W4 820 Questions

Hi, recently got my hands on an Iconia W4 820 and am happy with it except for a couple minor things im not able to recitfy on my own.

Firstly, this is my first Win8 device, i know WIn7 inside and out however over the past couple days have become more and more use to Win 8.1 on this tab.

Issues i need recified:

When booting up atfer the lock screen, it will hang on a black screen (screen still on) for about a whole 1-2 mins before it can be used. I did not recall this issue occuring before a couple dozen updates via Win update were installed.

At this point the OS is loaded, so unsure why there is a black screenand a delay at all.

32gb SSD is smooth and enough room since music and movies will be going on a sandisk ultra 32gb micro sd, however would like to send all Windows Store apps to the SD and have them download there from now on to keep 10gb+ free on C:

Have tried this, http://www.howtogeek.com/136404/how-to-install-windows-store-apps-to-an-sd-card-or-another-drive/ but it made most of my metro Apps crash so had to revert that registry key back in order to fix it all.

Cheers

There could be network activity going on there. Do you have shared drivers mounted or network media linked? There's a 90 second timeout built into Windows for connecting to network resources, before it decides they aren't yet available.

Best bet is to move other data to the SD card and leave Metro apps alone. How much room are they taking now, compared to documents? Check the size of your Program Files folder as well, a lot of the stuff there will work just fine from the SD card.

Interesting, as i wouldn't have assumed the delay would be caused by conflicting media devices on the Wifi network. We're a family of 5, with a device or two each, so other network drives appear in 'My Computer' along with the C: and D: (SD card) drives. I'll try disabling network drives on the tablet since i dont stream/share anyway.

This is me still getting use to Win8 here

As for the SD, for the moment it has nothing but the OS, a few metro Apps and some windows apps (vehicle diagnosis application ~34mb, Chrome and CCleaner from memory, i might remove chrome actually) and the 32GB Sandisk Ultra currently holds all my music leaving about 9.5gb free on the SSD after Windows update and MS Office installation.

While it's bareable for a tablet i'd like a bit more headroom, we all know any Windows version hates living on a drive with less than 1GB free space and some applications can play up because of this.
