Aspire V5-131 powers on by itself

I have an Acer Aspire V5-131, running Windows 7 Home Premium.

My machine has recently started up in the middle of the night, without me starting it, i.e. without me pressing the Power On button in the upper left corner of the keyboard.
I have not set up any scans or anything else like that to run in the middle of the night, therefore the machine should not be starting up by itself.
I am not really interested in finding out who or what is causing this – too many possibilities. Neither am I asking about data security or passwords or anything like that.
All I really want to know is if there is a fail-safe “power off” configuration or function or physical switch which will prevent the machine from powering up without me personally initiating the power-on and having the machine directly in front of me.
Obviously I could remove the battery which would achieve what I am looking for, but that’s not a practical solution. Also I could turn off my router at night to prevent remote access if that were the problem, but that’s also impractical and doesn’t solve the problem of the machine powering up by itself.

I am aware that the machine goes into Sleep Mode if it is on and then has the screen closed, i.e. lowered down to the keyboard. But I suspect this is not sufficient to totally block the machine from being powered up while in the closed position - - is that an accurate assumption ?

Many thanks for your thoughts and suggestions.

Have you looked at Task Scheduler to see if anything somehow got scheduled that is waking it up? Also when it does it you can run "powercfg - lastwake" and maybe it will tell you what woke it/ turned it on.
