Acer AL2216W Native Resolution/Scaling Problem

I've had this Acer AL2216W for a few years now.

 

All of a sudden, what used to be a native resolution of 1680x1050 is now 1280x1024.  I can use 1680x1050 but when I do I have to scroll the screen to see my entire desktop.  With 1280x1024 things fit, though I can move a window all the way to the right edge of the screen and actually go a few inches beyone what I can see.

 

I've really tried everything:

 

1.  Reinstalled video-card drivers (nvidia 8800 GTS)

2.  Swapped out all cables

3.  Put video card in a different slot

4.  Swapped out video cars (from a 8800 to a 7600)

5.  Used a back-up image to restore computer to a state where the monitor was fine

6.  Other sundry things

 

Nothing has worked.  I run the Acer on a Gateway machine.

 

I was told that it's possible that my monitor's EDID settings might be bad. 

 

Any possible solutions to this problem.  Or is my monitor, in fact, bad?
