    a) are you connected to a network ?

    b) did you create a local admin acount ?

Note to people buying tabs/notebooks with Windows 8/8.1. When first setting up it asks for a Microsoft Account. Select "create new...." and toward the bottom of the screen is "use local account". Select that and create a local admin account (default). Then use a MS account for the play store/etc. but you have a way to "fix" things if needful.

PS save the account name and password the same place you save the recovery flash drive and the system image drive (second and third things to do with a new Windows tab).

There is supposed to be a method from that screen to use a different account. If you don't have signin options available to you try signing in with that account from another PC to verify the password is correct. If the password doesn't work elsewhere, then go through the 'I forgot my password' steps with Microsoft.

Do you have a Microsoft cloud account ? (Used to get apps from the store). If you can open the store then try opening the machine with the same credentials. You will need wired or wireless connectivity.
