i have the Aspire 5532 notebook

Model: KAWGO

Serial: Unknown

I want to upgrade the processor which is an AMD Athlon 64 TF-36, to a Athlon 64 X2 at the same clock frequency.

Are there any reasons why the system board would not support this upgrade?

this is my current processor: http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K8/AMD-Athlon%2064%20TF-36%20-%20AMSTF36HAX3DN.html

I want to upgrade to a dual-core version of it: http://www.amazon.com/AMD-Athlon-1-9GHZ-Socket-amdtk57hax4dm/dp/B0067URW94

are there any reasons ( Thermal, electrical, BIOS ) that i couldn't do that?

Acer Aspire 5532

AMD Athlon 64, TF-36 1.99GHz

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit

  • Hello,

The original cpus mounted on the Aspire 5532:

    KC.AL002.310CPU.ATHX2.L310/1.2G/1M
    KC.ATF02.200CPU.ATH/TF20/1.6G/512/G2
    KC.ATF02.360CPU.ATH.TF36/2.0G/256K/25W
    KC.ATK02.420CPU.ATHX2.TK42/1.6G/1M/20W

There is only one model of fan, heatsink and motherboard.

"i made already 2 upgrades to my Acer 5532
i first installed a TL-58 (1.9ghz) and for the record i used the stock thermal compund as it was stills usable (the temps where raging form 50 idle to 70 on load) and the Windows Experience got me from 3.2 to 4.7 and the 3d mark 06 got me 1080

then i installed the TL-66 (2.3ghz) and used artic silver alumina and i get around 40 idle to 60 load and the windows experience got me to 5.1 and the 3d mark 06 to 1137

by the way a friend of mine saw the upgrade i made to my laptop and he tried to use my TL-58 on his Compaq CQ60 if i remember correctly and he didn't check that his computer uses a S1G2 processor (a Sempron M120 if i remember correctly) and the laptop refused to turn on, but i forgot to swap the sempron processor to my acer to verify if a s1g2 worked on my machine so that was my bad

and for the record i read that you could overclock the processor using setfsb so i am going to give it a try and see if it works and if the temp stays at reasonable values, to see if it's worth it, but one thing wonders me, does anyone knows how (if it's possible) to overclock the HD3200 on this machine?"
