Aspire One ZG5 screen shrunk down 30%.

I recently was given a Aspire One ZG5 by a friend. It had a corrupted hard drive and needed a new one, but he didnt want to mess with it. So I installed another hard drive and loaded Fedora17 on it. It works beautifully, except the screen resolution is distorted. The actual viewable section is shrunk down by around 30% and it trys to 'repeat itself' right below AND it has just plain black screen on the right side. I have never seen this before except when a cable is loose or whatnot. I made sure the cable was secure and it was still present. So upon some serious googling and research, I ran across the bios flash trick and did that. However, it did not help. The only other option that seems to be the concensus online is that the screen needs to be replaced. But there has to be a software fix for it. Its not like a part of the screen is damaged, just that the driver or bios or whatever isnt telling correct information to the display. Any help would be appreciated! THANKS!!
