When I look at Networks I see 'Airplane mode off'. 'WIFI(OFF)'. Documentations says there should be switch on the machine somewhere. I do not see one. Fun F3 toggles the Airplane mode. Thanks for any help, Gene.

You may reset BIOS to default settings.

Restart the computer  and  tap the F2 key as soon as you restart the computer since windows 8 loads too fast.
Please press the F9 key and then select "Yes" to load default and save the configuration.
Then press the F10 key and select "Yes" to save the changes in BIOS.
    The computer would restart automatically.

There is no physical switch to turn ON wireless. use the following steps to enable or disable Bluetooth or Wireless:

You may also press and hold the Fn key and tap th F3 key to to enable or disable the wireless connectivity.

If you computer is shipped wiht windows 8.1, you could press and hold the windows key and tap the I keys to directly open the Settings charm.
Click/tap on the Change PC settings link at the bottom right corner, then click/tap on Network in the left pane. Click/tap on Airplane mode in the left pane In the right pane under Wireless devices, move the Wi-Fi slider to turn on (right) or off (left) for what you want. When finished, close the PC setings window.

Thank you for your response, Ally. I followed your instructions, however, the only two sliders that I could affect were the Airplane mode and the Bluetooth.

I cannot change the WI-FI setting. It appears to be inactive and does not respond to any activity - tapping does no good, and sliding does not move it to on. Any further ideas?
