Windows 8.1 Problems

Ive recently 'upgraded' to Windows 8.1 after all the prompts I recieved. Now that I have 8.1 my battery life has decreased drastically, the fan is running almost always (even when its closed), and the laptop is much hotter. Obviously, I want to go back.

Ive done a minimal amount of research and found out that by going to the 'Update and Recovery' tab in PC Settings, I can run 'Refresh your PC without affecting your files' in order to downgrade. Upon opening this I am warned that ill have to reinstall **bleep** near everything on my laptop, including all my Intel drivers, and 'Identity Card', among other things. These sound fairly important, and I am worried that if I follow through with this, I may not be able to reinstall some of these drivers and programs.

Is this method safe? How else can I downgrade back to Windows 8? Is there a way to fix my laptop?

My model is an Acer Aspire S7 392 6402
