Acer Iconia w510, tablet won't start or work without keyboard dock after servcie

Hi

I have an Acer Iconia W510 with keyboard dock. This unit has recently been to Acer service due to over heating issues casuing the unit to turn off after a few minutes usage.

This issue seems now to have been solved, but instead I have encountered another issue.

Now the tablet isn't working without the keyboard dock. When in the dock, it says that Battery1 (tablet battery) is 100% charged but when I lift the table out of the dock it completley shuts down. Not through pwoer save of something like that, it just directly drops all power.

After that the tablet cannot be started without either putting it back to the dock or connect it to the cable directly. Same if I start it up with the cable connected. Battery1 100% but when I remove the cable the tablet dies.

This was not a problem before the service, then it ran perfectly fine in and out of the dock.

The service took over 7 weeks so if possible I'd like to avoid sending it in again.

The service upgraded bios and drivers and I have ran all windows updates (incl 8.1 update) after I got it back. I've also tried different power resets using volume and power buttons.

Any ideas?

Running with the power cord connected sounds like the internal battery is either disconnected or failed.  This is common (instant full charge, instant die when power removed). Has it been this way since returned ? Should not have passed final check.

Pretty sure that opening the case will void your warrenty but sounds like that is what is needed: to either reconnect or replace the battery.

Yes, that was the behaviour when I got it back. At first I thought that it was because the tablet had been totally empty in power when I got it back. But when checking it had at that point around 30% battery.

If the battery is disconnected, should it still charge then and give indication that it is fully charged?

Something is wrong. If it were mine, I'd download BatteryInfoView from NirSoft (currently freeware) and look at things like "Power State", "Current Capacity Value", "Battery Wear Level", and "Charge/Discharge Rate" or just copy and post the display.

This is what my 510 (battery fully charged) reports:

    Battery Name:  WT3
    Manufacture Name:  PEGA
    Power State:  AC Power
    Current Capacity (in %): 100.0%
    Current Capacity:  29,637 mWh
    Full Charged Capacity: 29,637 mWh
    Designed Capacity:  29,637 mWh
    Battery Wear Level:  100.0%
    Voltage:   4,134 millivolts
    Charge/Discharge Rate: 0 milliwatts
    Chemistry:  Lithium Ion
Low Battery Capacity (1): 591 mWh
Low Battery Capacity (2): 1,778 mWh

If yours does not work on battery, posting that state won't help you.
