I have an Acer Aspire V5 122P-0408 notebook. I am considering upgrading the 5400 rpm hdd inside to an ssd. I will also be buying a new copy of Windows 8.1 to install. I have version 2.04 of the bios now. The latest bios version is 2.12. I was wondering if I would be able to install an ssd and 8.1 without updating the bios as I don't want to accidently brick my laptop.

If not, would updating the bios fix any compatibility issues or add any new improvments? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    hi..

If you wish to update to windows 8.1, you may update the BIOS to latest verssion to enchance the perfromnavce of your computer. Please keep the AC adapter plugged in during BIOS update. If your computer is shipped with windows 8 you have the option to upgrade to windows 8.1 for free from windows store.

Please don't forgot to create the recovery disc before replacing the hard disk.

Ok. Thank you for answering. I have one more question. I know that to update to version 2.07 and up I need 2.06 installed, but after that can I just install the latest version or do I have to install them in sequential order? For example after I install 2.07 do I have to do 2.08 then 2.09 etc. or can I just update to 2.12?

    Hi...

You can update to BIOS 2.07 or higher after you update to BIOS 2.06. A security feature change was made on BIOS 2.06 that is required before any newer BIOS update can be performed.

If BIOS 2.06 is not installed you will receive the message "Please update to BIOS v2.06 first for critical secure mechanism".

After installing V20.6, you can directly install V2.12. You do not have to install them in sequential order.

Where can I find the BIOS v2.06? It isn't listed on the BIOS updates page. Only the later ones are listed but I can't update to those without updating to v2.06 first because of the security issue.
