I have an S5200 short throw projector, can I clean scratches off the lens?

I have an Acer S5200 projector, which I am very happy with and is used regularly, but the large projection lens has gradually become scratched, and it is becoming noticeable as slight blurring and fuzziness in the projected image. I have seem some glass cleaning products which claim to be able to gently remove scratches from lenses, bit I am unsure if the lens on my S5200 has an anti-reflective coating on it. If so - am I likely to damage it if I try and polish out the scratches myself?  If I cant polish out the scratches is it possible to purchase a replacement lens assembly and fit this myself, or will it need to be done in the Acer repair workshop? If so please advise approx costs and how do I go about doing this? I am in the UK.  Any advice would be appreciated.  not immediately urgent but will need sorting out quite soon as scratches are becoming more evident.  Thanks. RayatEnterama.

    Hello,

You'll find below the lens part number for S5200:

57.K140Q.002 - LENS OFFSET PLASTIC (picture link)

You can request a quote and place an order from your Acer store (click on the orange button in the header).

Thank you very much for the part number. I followed the link to obtain a replacement unit - I am quite surprised that this is a plastic lens, rather than glass, but even for this I am being quoted around £200 just for the supply and no guarantee of delivery. I will contact Acer and see if they can do anything with this - otherwise the image quality is just going to deteriorate even further. if they cant do anything the unit is pretty well useless. So for around £200 -plus I may as well try getting the lens re-polished, and see if i can find a reflective coating somewhere I can apply myself.  Can't be any worse than the situation i'm in already. Has anyone else got any thoughts?   thanks for your help thoughRayatEnterama
