Can't get picture from a splitter to the monitor

I'm trying to split my cable box signal to my monitor (Acer S220HQLAbd) and TV using a powered HDMI 1x2 splitter. The TV output portion works fine, but the monitor does not. It shows a black screen, but does not show that the 'cable is not connected' once plugged in, so it's definitely receiving something, but not displaying anything. The monitor only has one DVI input so I had to get an HDMI-to-DVI converter cable. When this cable is used to connect directly to the cable box output, it works fine without changing any settings on the cable box (set to 1080p). Is there some tweak to make this work? What could be causing this? I've tried 2 splitters so far and an EDID detector, nothing has worked. The splitter works fine when I tested splitting to an LED tv and my old LCD tv, so I'm guessing there is something not happening properly between the spliiter output and the monitor input. Any ideas? Please help. Thanks.

I'm assuming the monitor works fine if you do not use a splitter? My only suggestion would be to try using a different type of splitter, or contacting the cable provider or manufacturer of the splitter, to see if there is a limitation on what you are trying to do.
