How do I get my EMail addresses into 'people'

How do I get my EMail addresses into 'people' from the EMAIL app, i.e. so that I can use them for messages on my BT Email account.  It only appears to take in data from Skype.  If this is its function, what address book do you suggest which will interface with the Email app?

    Should have said that I am talking of an Acer Iconia A3-A10 tablet.

    I would suggest downloading an app called "cloud magic" and using this for your emails.  Cloudmagic is much more sophisticated than the built in email mapp and will let you add people from the "people" app when composing an email.
