My Acer V5-571 the Good Bad and indifferent experiances I have had

Hi All

I will say from the outset I do love my Acer products and have had then for many years and have had then in everything they have ever done I still use a Acer N10 pocket PC today and love it and think it was a great bit of kit and thought they might take it forward and build on it but its still the same where as it would have been so easy to add a phone to the unit But hey never mind Im not talking about they now.

Right to the laptop in question The Ultra Thin V5-571 and firstly the reasons for having it. I had a heart attack a few years ago and since oper heart surgery which all went fine but still left me with issues and these have only been compounded with back issues where a few of my vertebrae are giving up and going all wobbly and the onset of otiose arthritides in the knees has made it that I can walk no more than a few yards without pain or breathlessness But also the heart problem has added to the mix in that they will not do any surgery to correct any of the problems as it is to dangerous to put me out to do any of the needed ops. So Im in a downward spiral and have to make the best of the hand dealt. But is also hurtful because in the past I have lead such a encumbered life and used to be very active in my younger days through sports and pastimes so in such has gone from one extreme to the other . Anyway Im off at a tangent yet again.

My illness restrains made it necessary to have a light yet large enough screen to be usable by me and as my main position during the day was to be in a laying position I needed to pick it up and put it down buy the bedside. And the V5-571 was Ideal although through constant picking up and putting down you can now see a definite curve to the screen as I use one corner of the laptop to pick it up and put it down.

The Very first week I had the laptop I got cut by one of the edges of the laptop where the plastic edges had not been cleaned up right and they was still sharp. But once I knew about them I could avoid any more cuts. Then also the very first day I had it after about 20mins or so of putting my data in I made a mistake so rather than trying just to get rid of that bit of data and it causing problems further down the line I thought with it being new I may as well start again . Bad Idea it took nearly a day to reformat the hard drive ( Yes i did say nearly a full day) Anyway I thought it was me and not knowing how to use the laptop and that I had some settings wrong or something and never gave it a second thought. Till a couple of months later when something had installed wrong and I wanted to take it out but was proving difficult So thought I would use roll back . And not thinking about the reformatting incident I started Low and behold it took over 5 hours to do just a roll back and at that time I only had under 60meg of HD used. So have ever since been careful about what I load and how I load it as I dont want to go through that again. Then about 7 months after I had had the laptop the screen started to flash and colours seamed to change when the lid was moved and it went darker and lighter and the resolution dropped off. So I put in a request to Acer to have a look at it to which there was no problem and they sent the info back I needed to send it back . But in the mean time I was taken bad again and was like it a couple of month and only managed to get the laptop back to then when it was near to the warranty being up.

Also the DVD drive had been opened one day and it came out but never stopped and flew right out of its slides and connecting wire just came off as well.  So I managed to get it back into its bay and I just closed it and explained to Acer what had happened and could they fix it when they did the screen issues To which they replied yes to.

I got the pickup sorted and It was collected by a nice man in brown with a nice large van also in brown on Tuesday morning. Now I was worrying about what I would do without it for weeks on end when a knock came at the door on   Thursday afternoon It was the nice man and his van delivering back my beloved Acer in just under three days. Wow I thought till I read the report . They had replaced the DVD but the tech could not see anything wrong with the display. And yet no sooner had it been switched back on as it was showing the same signs I had sent it back for and now it was out of warranty . But fear not apparently they give a 3 month warranty on the parts they have fixed or looked at So I have booked it in for another repair . and in the mean time see if it gets worse But also try and get to the bottom of the under powered ness of this laptop . i.e, the 23 hours to reformat and reinstall from its own backup drive or the 5 hours to do a roll back of daily date. Plus these facts I have noticed since then The Fan is on constantly from after 5 mins from cold till I turn the laptop off I would by no means say its fast and yet it is supposedly a I5 chip. It just seams very underpowered I have a Duel Core Dell that seams and feels as fast and is over 3 years old. I paid my money for this as I thought it would do all I ever needed But its been my first Acer product I have regretted buying and the most expensive as well...

So Its going back as the screen is now about unreadable unless I get hold of one side and twist it a little LOL.

But as for the speed the laptop runs at can anyone tell me how I can get it across to the techs and what to tell them to look for so they could have a look at trying to sort out just how slow and sluggish it works Its like working in thick oily sludge?. Is there ant tests that can show what speed the chip is working at. Anything to get then to investigate the laptops performance because believe me it works like I feel and that is ready for the Kn&%*%ers Yard LOL..

All the very best and many thanks for reading this waffling description of my laptop about both its and my health issues

regards Andy,,,
