Cannot restore to Factory

I work at a store and we get repo laptops in frequently. This is a Windows 8 machine.  If they have a password on the windows account I normally just click on the power icon on the login screen, hold shift and click restart and it comes up to the reset option.  I have an Acer here that has some updates hanging and I can't get them to install because I don't have the windows password.

When I try to use the same process I always the only options i get are continue to windows or restart.  I cannot get the recovery menu up there.  I am assuming it's because the updates are hanging there but I can't get them to install.  I also tried to log in as guest to get the updates to start with no success.

Any suggestions?

Power off and Power on pressing power button with ALT+F10 to start erecovery

if erecover doesn't start, Power on pressing power button with F2 to enter BIOS, check if D2D is enabled, enable if is disabled, save and on next boot press ALT+F10

My hard drive crashed, instaled an exact duplicate, purchased and installed all acer recovery disks but at completion get:

"fail to custimize winre for recovery utility"  then on rebooting get: "operating system not found".  Could it maybe they sent me a windows 7 64 bit but original was 32?  Perplexed

32 or 64 bit doesn't matter...or at least is not the problem.

when you boot from Acer recovery disk, did you choose new install or repair?

The HDD must be blank, no partition, no formatting, just simple raw data.

By the way, since you mentioned that was near the end of the process, i would try to boot pressin ALT+F10 and see if it, at least, installed the recovery and try to install from it.

    Thank you

I have a new harddrive and unfortunatly did not choose Complete New Install just restore OS so I need to wipe the new drive clean and do a Complete Restoration I believe.

Thanks for the reply.  I tried alt - F10 and kept receiving an error message.  I just happened to have another laptop of the same model here so I made the recovery USB disk from that one and was able to get it to load on the other one. Thanks again.
