Iconia W3-810 Windows 8.1 tablet

I have ........

2 Recovery disks which came with the tablet

Micro USB Dual OTG Hub Cable

ASUS External 8x DVD /RW Writer / Burner  Slim Drive ( recommended by member Leonid )

I connected the dvd/rw to the tablet using the micro usb otg hub cable. The tablet recognized the dvd/rw, BUT.....

when I tried to do a recovery using this method

http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/32036/~/iconia-w3-810-recovery-using-acer-recovery-media

I could go as far as step #8.

The moment I inserted the recovery disk #1, the tablet sent me right to the desktop. Never had a chance to run step #9.

What did I do wrong ?

Auto Play is turned on and setting is correct.

P.S. The Ausus external dvd/rw writer came with a dvd labelled ***** DVD SUITE.

What do I do with it ?

Am I spposed to run it first in order to activate the dvd/rw drive ?

Maybe that is my problem, that I did not use it ?

Does the DVD drive have it's own power, or is it plugged into a powered hub?

Insert the DVD before selecting USB CDROM from the Boot menu

    I'm not an Acer employee.

    Thank you for the reply.

I have a change of heart.

My reasons of wanting to do Recovery .....

    1. my Unknown Device is missing the driver and I am unable to find a driver to install.( See my other thread .)

    2. when playing music, the sound is very thin and low even the volume is jacked up to max.( I have checked the Play Back and Recording options and Level is set to max. )

    3. All "Sounds" are hardly noticeable.

Other than that, my tablet runs fine. I might just put up with this issue and forgo the Recovery.

    Update......

I tried to do recovery again.

This time I inserted the DVD before selecting USB CDROM from Boot menu.

No good. I was sent right back to my desktop as last time.

I tried to use the dvd/rw to play cd music. It worked. But it does not play retail ( not home-made) dvd videos.

What a mess I got myself into buying the iconia w3-810.

I am not going to try again.

I have system image backup done on an external harddrive. I'll use it if I need to restore.

    Case close.

Thank you everyone for helping me.

OK. Thank you. That is the part I did not know. I just simply connected the dvd/rw to the hub, hub to tablet, and tablet to the power source. That appatently does not work.

I have now connected the dvd/rw directly to the power source and now Recovery is in progress.

I chose reset to factory default keeping nothing. Hope it was the right choice. It's too late now if it is not.

    Will post back the result.

Yes, that is easy to miss. There is not enough power available on these tablet ports to drive a DVD drive when it's spinning.

Recovery finished. Still Unknown Device missing a driver, PLUS.... it will not let me enable WiFi, hence no internet connection ( network adaptor not installed).

I am sending it back to seller for refund. Bought it from eBay.

Not what I expected. A HUGE mistake.

But, your post deserves to be marked as Solution. So, I did.

    Thank you.

P.S. Is Toshiba Encore  Windows tablet any good ?
