I took our A1-830 and tested it as you described below but could not duplicate the issue. I have the same version installed but I didn't have the signal issue. After that I did a search online and found several devices going to Kitkat have been experiencing a similar issue. Below are some suggestions I found that helped resolve simliar problems:

    • Go to Settings -> Location -> Mode -> tap High accuracy.
    • Go to Settings -> Wi-Fi -> Advanced (found in the menu by tapping button in the top right) -> then uncheck Wi-Fi optimization.

    I, Too, have this issue.

You'll have to forgive me, but I don't see how you have enough information to have done what you said you have done and to be able to make a conclusive troubleshooting and diagnois. Kitkat is not enough info to offer such a crude troubleshooting result, esp on a manuafactuers forum by someone representing the manufactuer. Is it a US version, UK version, etc. You need the Image Version, Build number at the bare minimum to make such a conclusion.

I don't mean to attack you but before you posted such a diagnosis maybe it would have been nice to have the logs of the poster or elevated the issue to true tech support.

To say this is going around online, by who? Third rate devices bought from China or by trusted brands like Google Nexus, RCA, Toshiba, Acer, Sony, Asus?

However, I, too, have an issue with the wi-fi being degraded after the update on my model A1-810, to

    Android 4.4.2

    Kernel version 3.4.67

    Image version Acer_AV0K0_a1-810_RV0BRC02_PACUS1

    Build number Acer_AV0K0_a1-810_1.032.00_PA_CUS1

After update the wifi just continuously drops/disconnects, EVEN when I am in the same room with my router.

More percisely, after 10 seconds of being connected if it is not being used for a network or internet based task/purpose it drops. This makes it annoying to use for simple tasks because it adds an extra 5 seconds or so to productivity while it connects. If it takes you more than 10 seconds to read a webpage that has fully loaded, it drops/disconnects/goes to sleep or what ever you want to call it. Of course, we will never know if the logs are troubleshooted.

This is an issue that is going through the blogs too, esp with Acers.

Mine worked the same after the upgrade. What kind of router are you using, and what other devices are connected? Are you on a B/G/N/or AC network? If you go to a public hot spot, are you able to connect?

I'm betting it is some kind of incompatibility between the tablet OS settings and the way your network is setup.
